FOP Snippet - Unexpected by ~qwerty-kitties:iconqwerty-kitties:

I don’t know if I’ll take this idea any further than this piece, and it doesn’t exactly fit into any timeline I’m working on, so it’s kind of an ‘alternate universe’ thing.

Disclaimer:  Wanda isn’t mine.  Nor is anything in the FOP universe.

Unexpected

Drip.  Drip.  Drip.

The loose faucet Cosmo kept promising he’d ‘get around’ to fixing continued its monotonous tempo.  Wanda barely heard it, even though it echoed slightly in the silence of the tiled bathroom.  She was too focused on the small rectangular object sitting on the counter surrounded by colorful scraps of glittery paper.  More specifically, her focus was centered on the little window in the middle of said object.  There were two little lines in there, the shade of the dye a slightly faded version of her own hair color.

It was a pregnancy test.

And it was positive.

“This can’t be,” the little fairy whispered to herself as she studied the side of the box once again.  She re-read the step-by-step instructions for the third time, assuring herself she’d done each one correctly.  There weren’t many steps—only three, actually—so she was fairly confident each one had been done as directed.  It was pretty straight forward actually:

Step One – Hold the absorbent end of the test in urine stream for 5 seconds.  (Or, in Wanda’s case, pee in a clean cup and then dip the end into it.)

Step Two – Place test on a flat surface.

Step Three – Wait three minutes for an accurate test reading.

One line had come up immediately—the control.  Haven taken plenty of pregnancy tests in her years of trying to conceive, Wanda was prepared to wait for what would—in her experience—inevitably be a negative result.  So she sat on the edge of the bathtub, opened her favorite book, and quickly forgot about the test.

She had been half a page into her book when a tinny voice announced “Congratulations!!” and an almost microscopic door opened on the test, issuing forth a shower of the colorful confetti that now littered the counter.

Sorry, that's all.

The axiom “write what you know” has never been truer than it is for me. When I wrote “Shattered Dreams” it was from the vantage of a woman who had been trying for an extended period of time to have a baby with her husband. At the time, my husband and I had been trying for a child ourselves for years to no avail. Writing for Wanda was a type of therapeutic release. But as I found myself unexpectedly expecting last year, I was struck with a whole new batch of emotions and insecurities. As I struggled with my ever increasing ‘morning sickness’ (ha, ha, more like all day nausea), I wondered how my kinda/sorta alter ego Wanda would react were she to discover two little lines on her test. So I thought I’d find out.

I never went any further than this, tho. I was hoping to post it before I gave birth, but never got around to finishing it. But I still liked how this little bit came out. Maybe someday I will get around to getting it done.

Oh you're evil! I hope you finish this at some point, you've already got me interested and it's only taken a handful of paragraphs.

I wanna read more now, thanks. -.-
:iconsoulfulsin:
Aw. I want more.

And I prefer Wanda being pregnant to Cosmo. Ugh.

Very nice! I can already sense the dumbstruck "wait, what?" coming from Wanda. XD It's nice to know others find writing from her POV as a sort of therapeutic exercise - she really is one of those characters I can understand!

Sincerely and happily looking forward to more, when time/muses will allow! All my best to you and the family! :3

Cosmo: HEY! Let's get something straight! I'm not bright, big words confuse me, I have the attention span of a rodent, and Wanda loves me anyway! She makes me happy... and that should be enough for you!

And I love the last bit about the confetti. XD That's so very FOP!

Thanks! :) I was hoping to get a oneshot out of it but my brain fizzled after this scene. Bleh. I hate when that happens!

Oh, me too.
But I think this is pretty strong as a oneshot.
You're welcome! ^^
